Our company policy at Bussan Sumisho Carbon Energy Co., Ltd. (known as MISEC) is to supply competitive coal to our various customers in the industries for cement, paper making, chemicals, and independent power generation (IPPs). Coal power generation is the most competitive power generation method currently in use, and without doubt it contributes to global economic development and provides a means for our affluent, comfortable lifestyles. Even in Japan’s latest energy policies, the government estimates coal will account for 26% of the nation’s total power generation in 2030, indicating that coal will remain an important source of power for the electricity we use every day.

However, the global power and energy situation has become a critical issue due to CO2 emissions and global warming, and so, we may be facing a major turning point. Under such circumstances, we have no intention of standing on the sidelines. We believe that one of our important missions is to contribute to an environmentally friendly world by being mindful of the future of our Earth.

As part of our determination to support develop a sustainable society, in 2015 we started to import palm kernel shells (PKS) as a clean energy biofuel resource. We will also actively take part in supplying coal over the long term to power plants that burn a mixture of coal and biofuel. Moreover, by supplying biofuel to existing coal-fired power plants, we will contribute to reduce CO2 emissions. We are also aggressively developing overseas’ high grade coal with high calorific value and high power generating efficiency.

In addition, our company supports export of coal ash, which is generated as a by-product of the coal burning process, for use as a raw material for cement. This effort toward resource recovery of coal combustion waste attests to our commitment to help promote a recycling society.

In closing, allow me to say:
All of us at MISEC will pursue better solutions together with our customers by exercising our expertise.
All of us at MISEC will strive to add value to society by approaching issues from the perspective of our customers.
All of us at MISEC will play a part in helping to create a stable society that balances environmental and economic interests.
